The Great Wood
Blanchardstown, Dublin
Located just north of Dublin city centre, The Great Wood represents the transformation of a former nightclub into a vibrant two storey bar. The name, ‘The Great Wood’ refers to the town’s origins when it was covered by an ancient forest known as The Great Scaldwood.
Kdpa’s approach to the scheme focused on blending local history with the distinctive contemporary language of the building itself.
The interior concept was developed using local historic references to create contrasting & luxurious finishes with the raw material palette of the building. An opening was installed on both elevations and the entire section of the ground floor cut away to create a dramatic stairwell linking, via a feature staircase, all levels of the building.
